TV poster analysis
this is the poster that was used to advertise the television programme 'Dexter'. The background of the poster is plain white which means that the picture is the main focus of the poster as there is nothing to take your attention away from it.
There is a tagline at the top of the poster which says 'The avenging angel returns' this fits with what the picture shows as it looks like he has wings made of blood, the wings would represent him being an angel and the blood would fit with the idea of him avenging someone. the white background also helps the red of the blood and the word 'Dexter' to stand out from everything else on the cover, the colour also gives connotations of danger and gives the impression that the man on the poster could be dangerous.
The man on the poster doesn't really stand out too much the only unusual thing about him is that he is holding scissors which would make the audience wonder why he was holding them.
The man is using a direct mode of address as he is looking straight at the camera and therefore looks like he is looking straight at you when you look at it.
The man is wearing a dark shirt which could be something to do with his job in the programme however the colour doesn't fit with the idea of him being an angel as you would expect an angel to be dressed in white.
This is the poster for the television programme 'The Walking Dead' the poster is made up of all neutral colours everything on it including the text is brown black or white this gives the image on it a dark menacing sort of look.
The image shows a man running away from the camera so the audience and only see his back, people who watch the programme already would know who he was and the picture would probably make sense to them however someone who had never seen it before would wonder who he was, why he was running, who he was running from etc.. so it would make them want to watch the programme to find out the answer to these questions.
Also the brightest part of the picture is the white light that he is running towards which could represent him going towards the light in the sense of him possibly dyeing in the series or could be to show him coming to the end of something else.
At the top of the poster there is a quote and a four star rating from 'people' magazine, as this is a well know and trusted magazine people would pay attention to their opinion of the programme and so this may make them want to watch it.
The only other text on the poster is the white writing at the bottom which tells people the date and time of when the programme is on and also what channel it is on, this is there so that the audience will be able to find the programme easily and watch it if they want to.
This is the poster for the television programme 'Skins' the poster is made up of one main image which makes it look like the people in it didn't know they were having their picture taken. The image shows some of the main characters in the programme as well as some people who don't have a main role at what looks like a party, this gives the audience some sort of idea about the type of programme that this is going to be.
The two males at the front of the photo look like they're about to start fighting which could make the audience wonder why they were going to fight and they may also get the impression that it could be something to do with the girl who is the main focus of the picture.
The girl who is the main focus is the one who stands out at most firstly because she is the only one wearing a bright colour, she is in red while everyone else is in grey, black or white. The colour may of also been used to give connotations of the girl being dangerous.
The only other thing that is in a bright colour on the poster is the 'E4' logo and information about when the programme is going to be on at the top left corner of the poster this could of been done to draw peoples attention to it so they would remember the information shown there.
At the bottom of the poster there is the logo for the 'O2 academy' who sponsor the programme, this was probably added in as people would trust them as a company and would make them think that if they're sponsoring it then it must be worth watching.

DVD cover analysis
This is the DVD cover for the television show skins. This DVD cover is very plain with the front showing only an image of three of the characters: Effy, Freddie and cook they are all shown in a mid shot with Effy at the front and the boys at the back to either side of her. There is a direct mode of address as all of the characters are looking directly at the camera. the image on the back shows the rest of the main characters in a line with some of them further forward than others this could of been done to indicate that some of the characters are more important than others or could be due to the fact that those characters have bigger story lines than the others. Also the poses which the characters on the back are stood in gives some indication of the type of personalities they have e.g Pandora on the far left is shown to be dancing which matches with the out going confidant character that she is. The characters are all wearing clothing that fits with the idea of them being teenage characters as they're wearing things that teenagers today would wear and could relate to. The rest of the DVD cover is a plain grey colour which doesn't really match the type of programme that skins is but could of been used to show the more serious side of the programme which often gets over looked. The DVD cover is also different to most as the technical information is at the top rather than at the bottom where it usually appears. The thing that stands out the most on this DVD cover is the 18 rating certificate sign as it is the only thing in bright colour.
This is the DVD cover for the programme 'The inbetweeners' the main image is in the front of the DVD cover and shows the four main characters from the programme done in a silhouette style with the title of the programme and 'series 1&2' written across them this is also the thing on the cover that stands out the most and would get the attention of someone looking to buy a DVD in a shop. The only other thing on the cover is some technical information at the bottom (age rating, channel 4 logo) and then quotes from well know newspapers at the top above the picture giving the programme praise, the comments are put there to get the audience to buy the DVD as if trustworthy, well known newspapers are saying that it is good then people are likely to believe them. There is also another one of these quotes on the back of the cover. The back of the DVD cover also shows a picture of the four main characters again but this time posed around a car which people who watch and enjoy the programme will recognise as belonging to one of the main characters. The main colour on the DVD cover is blue which fades from dark to light. The only other thing on the back of the DVD apart from the blurb is the technical information and details about the special features included on the DVD, this would make someone want to buy it as they would feel like they were getting something extra for their money.
