this is the poster that was used to advertise the television programme 'Dexter'. The background of the poster is plain white which means that the picture is the main focus of the poster as there is nothing to take your attention away from it.
There is a tagline at the top of the poster which says 'The avenging angel returns' this fits with what the picture shows as it looks like he has wings made of blood, the wings would represent him being an angel and the blood would fit with the idea of him avenging someone. the white background also helps the red of the blood and the word 'Dexter' to stand out from everything else on the cover, the colour also gives connotations of danger and gives the impression that the man on the poster could be dangerous.
The man on the poster doesn't really stand out too much the only unusual thing about him is that he is holding scissors which would make the audience wonder why he was holding them.
The man is using a direct mode of address as he is looking straight at the camera and therefore looks like he is looking straight at you when you look at it.
The man is wearing a dark shirt which could be something to do with his job in the programme however the colour doesn't fit with the idea of him being an angel as you would expect an angel to be dressed in white.
This is the poster for the television programme 'The Walking Dead' the poster is made up of all neutral colours everything on it including the text is brown black or white this gives the image on it a dark menacing sort of look.
The image shows a man running away from the camera so the audience and only see his back, people who watch the programme already would know who he was and the picture would probably make sense to them however someone who had never seen it before would wonder who he was, why he was running, who he was running from etc.. so it would make them want to watch the programme to find out the answer to these questions.
Also the brightest part of the picture is the white light that he is running towards which could represent him going towards the light in the sense of him possibly dyeing in the series or could be to show him coming to the end of something else.
At the top of the poster there is a quote and a four star rating from 'people' magazine, as this is a well know and trusted magazine people would pay attention to their opinion of the programme and so this may make them want to watch it.
The only other text on the poster is the white writing at the bottom which tells people the date and time of when the programme is on and also what channel it is on, this is there so that the audience will be able to find the programme easily and watch it if they want to.
This is the poster for the television programme 'Skins' the poster is made up of one main image which makes it look like the people in it didn't know they were having their picture taken. The image shows some of the main characters in the programme as well as some people who don't have a main role at what looks like a party, this gives the audience some sort of idea about the type of programme that this is going to be.
The two males at the front of the photo look like they're about to start fighting which could make the audience wonder why they were going to fight and they may also get the impression that it could be something to do with the girl who is the main focus of the picture.
The girl who is the main focus is the one who stands out at most firstly because she is the only one wearing a bright colour, she is in red while everyone else is in grey, black or white. The colour may of also been used to give connotations of the girl being dangerous.
The only other thing that is in a bright colour on the poster is the 'E4' logo and information about when the programme is going to be on at the top left corner of the poster this could of been done to draw peoples attention to it so they would remember the information shown there.
At the bottom of the poster there is the logo for the 'O2 academy' who sponsor the programme, this was probably added in as people would trust them as a company and would make them think that if they're sponsoring it then it must be worth watching.
